3D2N – Bali Trip

We left Singapore at 10am and upon reaching Bali, we checked in at a place called Oranjje Hotel Kuta at Legian Area.

oranjjie hotel

The first thing we did was to supply ourselves with some shorts and clothes!

legian flea

We bought a dress, shorts and pants! We then looked for a driver at our hotel and we made some deals for him to bring us around Bali.

Our first stop is at a place called Uluwatu located at south Bali. This is the first time i see waves so strong with such large waves…

waves

Uluwatu is famous for its cliff-hanging temple where there is a temple right at the edge of the cliff.

uluwatu

The place has many cliffs where people would walk from one cliff to the other to look at what the view has to offer.

I think by far the nicest is at the far left corner where here is a very long and large cliff with waves of oceans gently flowing to the beach..

Of course, with such nice sceneries, it’ll be crazy without taking pictures of ourselves…

Oh, did I mention that this place is filled with monkeys? There are monkeys EVERYWHERE!

After Uluwatu, we headed to Jimbaran where we had seafood dinner by the beach, while watching the sun set.

drinks

In the evening, we headed back to Legian area and we walked around the area and by the beach. We even did a 1 hour balinese massage! The massage there is rather cheap, approx SGD$8 per hour/pax

The next day, we went to Tanah Lot where the place is known for the temple on a rock. After entering through the main entrance, we were first greeted with an array of souvenirs shops and there, we bought hats and sunglasses.

After all that, we reached the beach where the temple is sitting on the rock

Again, the waves here are super duper strong.

You can see surfers enjoying the waves there..

After Tanah Lot, we headed to Ubud. On the way there, we ate Babi Guling which is a delicacy at Bali.

babi guling

There are some parts that it was rather weird for me.. At times, I don’t even know what I’m eating.. hahah.. But I like the pig skin.. I even ordered another plate just with the pig skin… =D

Then, we went to see some balinese painting in action..

bali painting

But too bad, didn’t really know how to appreciate those paintings and we just headed straight to Ubud where, it’s a shopping haven for many.

It’s the flea market concept where you can bargain up to 20% of their starting price. It’s crazy theree…

ubud

But after a while, we realized that all the shops there sell almost the same thing.. hahah.. but some of them have really nice handicrafts

After the tireless walking, we then headed back to Legian.. We had local masakan padang where I think that local shop overcharge us like mad seeing that we’re tourists.

masakan padang

After that, we spent the remaining evening/night with a 3 hour Spa; 1 hour of Balinese massage, 1 hour of Facial and 1 hour of Foot Bath,

foot bath

It’s quite relaxing but could be better though. The masseuse wasn’t strong enough for me..

On the third and final day, we spend the day at Legian, preparing to fly off to Singapore. In the morning, we shopped around the area and bought cheap DVDs; approx $1 per DVD,

cd shop

We then had lunch at the cafe & bar. We had tom yam goong and nasi goreng; one of the nicer food we had at Bali.. haha

tom yam nasi goreng

After lunch, we loitered at a shopping mall near the Airport. We had A&W Float! Something that I haven’t had in years….

A&W

We left Bali at 5pm on a 2.5 hours flight back to Singapore. It was a quite a relaxing trip and I won’t mind coming back to Bali again…

August Birthdays

August is the month where a lot of people I know has their birthdays in it. My Dad, my 2nd sister has back-to-back birthday in August. Then in Singapore, 3 of my friends; De Zien, Shaun and Yi Wang has their birthdays there too! Every year, the ‘organizer’ aka Elaine would begin to trigger us for birthday present ideas and dinner meet-ups. And thus, the birthday celebrations begin…

10 Aug 2010 – De Zien’s Birthday Celebration

cheers!

We had dinner and drinks on a Tuesday night at Oriole Cafe & Bar. Western dinner with beer for us to soak into the atmosphere.

As it was a weekday and we were outside, we didn’t get him a big birthday cake but instead, a cheese cake!

And we bought him Star Craft 2 as a present for him!

After that, we went for desserts around the area.. Yum Yum!

21 Aug 2010 – Yi Wang and Shaun’s Combined Birthday Celebration

The initial birthday plan was to have food delivery at Pioneer where we’ll play card games and spend the night there… But the usual organizer decided to want have it in town area instead… So, after much last minute discussion and pre-briefing, we had dinner at Tampopo @ Liang Court instead.

elaine and shaun

It’s a Japanese restaurant and the food is quite good! They have black pigs! hahah

black pig

Then they serve different parts of black pigs but they all come looking the same – Fried.

After finishing our meal, we then opened the presents!

yiwang birthday present

Since there were two birthday boys, Yi Wang opened his present first since his birthday came first… And we got him, a Perfume!

yiwang

It’s a limited edition Calvin Klein ‘Summer’ perfume..
and it smelled …. *sweet*
and the packaging looks.. *girly*

The buyers claimed that they bought the male/unisex version but after a lot of research, we later found out that it’s actually the female version.. hahaha

yiwang perfume

“sorry Yi Wang, we had good intentions.”

Then next, it’s Shaun’s turn for his present opening.. We made him guess his present with Wai Seng as the interrogator with Yen Ping enjoying the show..

and Shaun was.. well, dumbfounded.

shaun thinking

Okay.. Some background here.. After De Zien and Wai Seng bought this present, they had a hard time explaining to people what is it over the phone. Yi Wang had to take 15 minutes explaining the present to his girlfriend..
Eventually, De Zien used two words to describe this present.. “Artificial” & “Vagina”

 shaun present

It’s long, squishy and has beads in it..

After that, we had drinks at eM by the River!

eM by the River

We had some light snacks, beers, and some chats. After all those, one of our birthday boys say that he’s hungry and then we headed to eat Bak Kut Teh at Mohamed Sultan Rd.

And after we’re done, it’s almost 12am already.. Hahah

We then proceeded to Elaine’s house as her place is just nearby. We spent the entire night there playing with the dog in the house, talking,  and staring at each other.. We only left at 6am, after the midnight charge has passed.. haha
I think we’re beginning to be old.. Back in schooling days, we could really do that, spend the whole night awake and still be energetic the next day. Now… lolz.. Let’s not go into details.

Durian Cravings

Oh yes, it’s almost the end of durian season and Ian wanted to eat some durians before it ends! We had two options,

  1. to eat it at Balestier Road
  2. to eat it at Kovan

Ian said the Balestier Road is quite nice but Kovan has one durian shop too.! So, since Kovan is nearer, we tried that one.

durian

We ate that Mau San Wong (direct translation: Cat Mountain King). It costs $12/kg.
Well, we didn’t have good durian for quite a long time. My mum would used to buy a lot at home and we used to have durian-fest at home.. haha..

Anyway, the durian is very creamy but I had better ones. The good ones are really full with meat and the seed is small.. I wonder whether I’d get the chance to eat those again…

Two weekends away from Singapore

It’s the month of August; Singapore is having its National Day and the Youth Olympic Games. Things are starting to slow-down at work and I took the opportunity to be back home for the weekends!

Over the Singapore national day weekend, I was back in Ipoh with Yin Sin to take some time-off from work. It was a good break. I really slept a  lot at home. And my mum prepared a lot of food for me!

But one surprising was that I actually bumped into a bunch of friends that I used to always hang out with. On the morning I reached Ipoh while having breakfast in old town at 630am, three very familiar figures walked into the same shop for breakfast;  ; Gary, Kelvin and Ben! They were out the whole night for their final gathering as everyone is to leave Ipoh – Gary to Sabah, Kelvin to Nepal and Ben to Canada. The four of us used to be called the 4 stooges as Miss Bella from our Sunday School would say. When they bumped into me, we said that it’s God’s fate to ‘reunite us’ in that ungodly hour.

I joined them for that morning while my parents went back home. Had a good chat with them and talked about the good ol’ times. Time really flies. All of us have got bigger stomachs already. haha..

For the rest of the other days, I was at home sleeping and eating most of the time. My mum would them pamper her kids with nutritious food. One of the things prepared was bird’s nest!

The following weekend, (this weekend at the time of posting), I’m in KL for some business-related matters. I guess it was bad planning that I had to come back in two different weekends when I could have settled everything one shot at one weekend. But oh well…

Here I am, posting my blog from mBuji Cafe. It has more promotions now with newer selections of food and desserts! Will take this opportunity in KL to meet up some of my friends who are here in KL. Some of them, I haven’t seen them in ages. Too bad I won’t have enough time to meet up with all of them…

Need to control my diet

It has been a week of buffet-eating-spree for me.

On Wednesday, I had a lunch buffet at Greenhouse @ Ritz Carlton. It was for a project celebration where the project won some excellence award and was given some award money.. The food was great and food selection is good..

On Thursday, I had another lunch buffet at Triple 3 @ Mandarin Orchard Hotel. It was a farewell lunch for one my colleague, Celine. They had a 1-for-1 promotion for any DBS/POSB Cards.

Then at night, I went to Geylang for Frog Porridge and to celebrate Hon Yoong’s birthday.

The dinner was because Yvonne returned to Singapore and we gathered most of the Ipoh village people together.

After dinner, we had two rounds of dessert in Bugis! For the first one, I had durian and pomelo sago. The second one, I had tau foo fah! The Tau Foo Fah is really as slurpy as the one in Ipoh.. =D
