Finally, I had some time to continue blogging bout my Chinese New Year days back in Ipoh.. Was pretty busy with training, work and other stuffs…
Let’s see… The 3rd day of CNY. Oh, right!

It was the 3rd day of CNY and my eldest sister is to return to Penang. My brother also had to fetch his gf and the in-laws back to Penang. Which leads to a very impromptu decision by my family.. “Let’s all go to Penang for a day trip!!”

At the time when they made the decision, I just woke up and was kind of shocked and flabbergasted with the news. haha.. but too bad, I couldn’t join them for the trip as I made a full-day plan with my friends already… They left for penang after lunch but before that, we took a ‘full’ family picture first.

Look at the number of nephews and nieces I have already…. Makes me feel old..

nephews-nieces

So.. they all left to Penang, with me in the house and Rosemary to take care of her new born son. Chee Lim came over right after my parents left.. She was supposed to come pai lin but too bad, no one was around. So, she just dropped by to see Elijah and Rosemary. Then, I went to her place to take something I left behind at her house the night before. And we headed for Choon May’s house shortly after.

Later after that, I went to Pinkie’s place, to meet her, joanna, jill and yee hui there. And guess what? We just watched TV.. hahah… Probably cause there isn’t much things to do at her place and only entertainment was the TV.. haha.
After waiting for yee hui to reach, we went to Jo’s house to play Pictionary!

pictionary

It was actually my first time playing Pictionary. I played something similar before, like Yahoo’s Graffiti, Win Lose or Draw.. or something to that category. It wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. But it was good play.. Need to think in the same frequency in order to guess what the other player is drawing.

Some classic examples

  • Pinkie drew a rat with a thousand legs…
  • Yee Hui’s version of Venus is “Gillette and Venus”, not the planet Venus…
  • A liver with a swimming pool is called “liverswim” and not liverpool..
  • Russia and a cow becomes “ruscow” and not “moscow”.. Lol

It was a fun game but too bad was a bit short.

Right before we left, we played this game called “Killer Bunnies”. A very fun game but we didn’t really had enough time to fully enjoy to fun of it.. I guess there’s always still next time. =)

And night time, there was Susan’s CNY house party! It’s something like Chee Lim’s version but the people there were more of a mixture between RPP, Sam Tet, SMI, MC and MGS people. So, being a very ‘shy’ person.. I just stick back to the people that I know.. hahah.. Saw some old friends that I haven’t seen for a while, like Nikhil Roy, Rui Yang…

It was great and Susan prepared lots of food to eat. Lots of fried chicken, cocktail, bak kwa… I guess that’s the end of the major big gatherings for me… But within that few days, have already met up with lots of people.

On the 2nd day of Chinese New Year, I woke up just in time for lunch where my eldest sister would then return to Ipoh from Penang.

And my brother also returned from Penang after picking up her girlfriend from Penang. I stayed at home during the daytime to spend time with my family and also to just laze around in my room…

The main ‘event’ for Chor 2 is the family dinner where we booked two tables at Sun Lee How Fook Restaurant. Too bad this year, grace and rosemary couldn’t join us. Grace is not around while Rosemary is still in ‘confinement’ mode.

There were also some new faces. Like my brother’s soon-to-be (hopefully) in laws.

It wasn’t as ‘fun’ as previous years though.. but at least the food is quite good.. haha

Right after dinner, I headed towards Chee Lim’s house party. She normally organizes one whenever she’s in Ipoh for CNY. It has been there since form 4/5 already… I think she invited the whole Ipoh village there. The house eventually packs up with people, mainly her schoolmates and some of her non-schoolmates.

girls1 There are only the above people when I first arrived at around 10 smtg… Then it slowly growed and growed…

group-pic I think it’s the picture have most of her guests inside. Apart from some that left early..

There’s the smaller group of people outside

outside-group

Versus the many people inside… It’s quite fun actually to see so many people at once. Like meeting alot of people at one spot at the same time. No need to have so many separate sessions to meet up.. Hahah

inside-group Nah.. Just kidding. Meeting up is fun. Knowing what’s happening about the people that we used to know.. Like those who didn’t used to study well end up to be very successful people. Some that were very notorious in school has one of the better professions. Like some becoming pastors and lecturers.. Amazing how people change, especially those for the better.

This year’s ‘chor 1’ is a day where my dad did not need to remind us to be ready to travel to his hometown, Tapah because.. well, we were not allowed to go there. Haha.. And the reason for that was because my 3rd sister just gave birth to her 2nd son and she (and her family) is considered dirty and not allowed to go around visiting, believing that it will bring bad luck to others…

I never really understand such tradition/culture but that’s the believe and we just obliged. Better to be safe than sorry when something bad really happens and they blame it on my family. Hence, the first day of CNY was a very relaxing day. Of course, we did the usual ‘rituals’ to visit neighbours, bring gifts and exchange ang paus. And of course, the main event of the day – The tea ceremony and the family portrait taking.

IMG_0909 Each of us to pour tea to our parents in return to receive ang paus. Starting from youngest to oldest. And lastly, the exchange of angpaus between my parents. =)

IMG_0925 Then, the family portraiture taking… This year’, we’re short of Grace as she’s in UK for her studies and she just came back for Christmas.

And the people who started it all…

And it never fails to end with a loud entrance to the start of the new Lunar New Year by burning some firecrackers!

For lunch, we just ate a simple lunch at Mar Poh and didn’t do much later in the afternoon. Haha.. Just relaxed and enjoy the atmosphere at home with the kids playing and siblings chatting around.

At night, I met up with Jason Lee, Omega, Delicia and Chin Zwen… We wanted to try out this new place called Papa Rich but it was super crowded. Even the cafe next to it, Taste of Soup, was full house.

facebook_016 We ended up going to Delicia’s house. Chin Zwen left to go to her other friend’s place.

Singapore is busy with its F1 night race event; I have my own busy events over the weekend.

It all being on Friday after work where I have my department gathering over at West Coast Park. It started right after work and ended at about 10+pm. That’s just the warm-up. The outing with the ipoh friends officially begins after that where we met up at Timbre @ Boat Quay. It’s an open area with a live band where people hang out and have drinks. It was quite a big group with chee lim, bi shan, wai tien, yvonne, meiyin,  jitvern, ian, etc.

timbre_girls

By the time I reached there, it was almost midnight and I didn’t really soak into the atmosphere there. Jit Vern they all were already there since 8pm. lol

On Saturday, we woke up very late as we only reached home at about 3am.. Initially, we wanted to eat-in for lunch then to Holland Village for dinner… We ended up staying in the house for the whole day. Yvonne and Mei Yin came over at about lunch time, and wai tien later in the evening. Chee Lim prepared lunch for us where she cooked lamb chop with brocolli/asparagus soup.

lamb_chop

Because we woke up very late, the meal was only ready around 5pm! Imagine that.. It was supposed to be for lunch and it became kinda like lunch/tea/dinner. We just hang out in the house where the main ‘gathering’ area was yee weng’s room. Chatted, sing karaoke, watched movies/youtube there. We had fried rice as dinner/supper. However, things began pretty fun after midnight where we watched a horror movie, followed by a drinking game and some disco/karaoke/dance session… It was pretty crazy. Was very tired at that time, but it was fun.. =)

On Sunday, we went to Geylang for Bak Kut Teh..

bak_kut_tehThen, headed towards Yvonne’s condo where we watched the movie, ‘Hangover’. Was a pretty good movie. There, Chin Zwen and her boyfriend, James, came over. We ordered some pizza for tea and went down to the pool area for some photo-taking sessions…

everyone

Headed over to Jumbo @ ECP for dinner where we had chilli crab.. We were quite full at that time and didn’t order much. And that’s all for the weekend. A fun but tiring one… Now, have to dread with resume work tomorrow….

It was half a day of walking yesterday. So to speak, we (yinsin and I) kind of ‘explored’ Singapore town on foot.

The initial plan was to stay in NIE library to read up more about the places that I’m going to travel and then after that, to Boon Lay market to buy bus tickets back to Malaysia. This will be the few times I’m going back from Singapore. This time round was because I have to bring back a lot of luggage with me

Last minute, we changed our plan and went to Bugis late in the afternoon. We wanted to try the Klang Bak Kut Teh near Arab Street.

Firstly, we went to the new shopping mall opposite Bugis Junction. Eccentric design and they have an escalator which connects the ground floor right up to the top floor. New cinemas, lots of shops selling clothes and undergarments.

Anyway, after that, we walked to Arab Street, explored around the place before proceeding to Beach Road for the Bak Kut Teh place.

img_5179

The Bak Kut Teh was just so-so. Decent. Nothing extraordinary but not horrible either. It’s about $5-$6 per person. But it’s definitely different from the Singapore version of Bak Kut Teh. Theirs is the one with pepper soup instead of herbs.

Anyway, after dinner we headed (walked) to Golden Mile, since I know it’s nearby, to purchase our bus tickets. It wasn’t that bad, about 5-10min walk only. And we don’t need to go all the way to Boon Lay market to get tickets now. Right after that, we wanted to go back to city hall; Suntec/Marina Square. And from Golden Mile, we can actually see Singapore Flyer and the Suntec Building.
So, there’s two ways to get there:

  1. Walk to Lavendar Station (5-10min walk), take train to City Hall (2 stations), and then walk along Citilink Mall towards Suntec (10min)
  2. Follow the Suntec Building/Singapore Flyer on foot.

Well, obviously… We chose the latter one being the ‘adventurous’ sport that we are.. lol. Wasn’t that bad actually until we reached a point where we can see Suntec Building but we can’t go there. It’s just about less than 100m away from us but what’s separating us and the building is the highway!! It’s the ’spaghetti’-type of highway where some cuts across, some flies overhead from one place to another. Following the Suntec Building was out of the question now since we may end up in the middle of the expressway.  So, we followed the Singapore Flyer and walked towards there. We eventually made it to Suntec Building after walking for what it seems like a U-turn to me. The entire walking took us approximately 20-30min. Not that far right? hahah

After doing some shopping and getting what we want, we headed back to NTU for supper at Ah Fang. It’s been a very very long time since I had supper with my batch of friends. My last memory of such an ordeal was back in year 2. The end of second year.

It was okay I guess. To like hang out again with them what seems like after a long time. And this is gonna be like the last time of NTU Supper for me. The walking outside NTU to a hawker place. And taking another 30min to walk back to my hall.

By the time I reached my hall, took a quick shower and went straight to bed.. Soundly fast asleep.
