3D2N – Bali Trip

We left Singapore at 10am and upon reaching Bali, we checked in at a place called Oranjje Hotel Kuta at Legian Area.

oranjjie hotel

The first thing we did was to supply ourselves with some shorts and clothes!

legian flea

We bought a dress, shorts and pants! We then looked for a driver at our hotel and we made some deals for him to bring us around Bali.

Our first stop is at a place called Uluwatu located at south Bali. This is the first time i see waves so strong with such large waves…

waves

Uluwatu is famous for its cliff-hanging temple where there is a temple right at the edge of the cliff.

uluwatu

The place has many cliffs where people would walk from one cliff to the other to look at what the view has to offer.

yinsin-uluwatu

I think by far the nicest is at the far left corner where here is a very long and large cliff with waves of oceans gently flowing to the beach..

Of course, with such nice sceneries, it’ll be crazy without taking pictures of ourselves…

cliff 3

Oh, did I mention that this place is filled with monkeys? There are monkeys EVERYWHERE!

After Uluwatu, we headed to Jimbaran where we had seafood dinner by the beach, while watching the sun set.

In the evening, we headed back to Legian area and we walked around the area and by the beach. We even did a 1 hour balinese massage! The massage there is rather cheap, approx SGD$8 per hour/pax

The next day, we went to Tanah Lot where the place is known for the temple on a rock. After entering through the main entrance, we were first greeted with an array of souvenirs shops and there, we bought hats and sunglasses.

After all that, we reached the beach where the temple is sitting on the rock

Again, the waves here are super duper strong.

You can see surfers enjoying the waves there..

After Tanah Lot, we headed to Ubud. On the way there, we ate Babi Guling which is a delicacy at Bali.

babi guling

There are some parts that it was rather weird for me.. At times, I don’t even know what I’m eating.. hahah.. But I like the pig skin.. I even ordered another plate just with the pig skin… =D

Then, we went to see some balinese painting in action..

bali painting

But too bad, didn’t really know how to appreciate those paintings and we just headed straight to Ubud where, it’s a shopping haven for many.

It’s the flea market concept where you can bargain up to 20% of their starting price. It’s crazy theree…

ubud

But after a while, we realized that all the shops there sell almost the same thing.. hahah.. but some of them have really nice handicrafts

After the tireless walking, we then headed back to Legian.. We had local masakan padang where I think that local shop overcharge us like mad seeing that we’re tourists.

masakan padang

After that, we spent the remaining evening/night with a 3 hour Spa; 1 hour of Balinese massage, 1 hour of Facial and 1 hour of Foot Bath,

foot bath

It’s quite relaxing but could be better though. The masseuse wasn’t strong enough for me..

On the third and final day, we spend the day at Legian, preparing to fly off to Singapore. In the morning, we shopped around the area and bought cheap DVDs; approx $1 per DVD,

cd shop

We then had lunch at the cafe & bar. We had tom yam goong and nasi goreng; one of the nicer food we had at Bali.. haha

tom yam nasi goreng

After lunch, we loitered at a shopping mall near the Airport. We had A&W Float! Something that I haven’t had in years….

A&W

We left Bali at 5pm on a 2.5 hours flight back to Singapore. It was a quite a relaxing trip and I won’t mind coming back to Bali again…

PC Show Weekend

I’m amazed how the people in Singapore can contribute to the sales of PC Shows/IT Fairs when it comes around in about once every 3-4 months! It’s like, there’s always a lot of people who need new PC, new Laptops, new cameras… I wonder when it will be a time when everyone has everything and there is nothing left to buy… Unless the Product Cycle is so short that people need to change their desktops every 2 years…

Anyway, I was there on Saturday to roam about PC Show and also to help Ian and Mel to buy new desktop and laptop…  And thanks to hardwarezone forum, I get to do some quick browsing to look at some of the highlights that they have. They are people who are crazy good enough to upload all the PC Show brochures up on the net.

brochures I found some interesting stuff that I’d like to get but shouldn’t give in to the techy/geeky ‘impulse’. i.e the Media Player (a box with networking capabilities that can stream videos, play videos directly on your tv) and the NAS (Network Attached Storage). Oh well, shall wait till I’m a bit more richer to buy all these stuff..

Of course, I try not to be too influenced with all these stuff and only stick to following around Ian/Mel with their laptop/desktop hunting. So, after about 3 hours of shopping, we ended up buying a MacBook Pro and a Lenovo Desktop.

Finally, Ian now has a desktop. Didn’t know how he survived with his laptop from his 1st year uni.

MPH’s Moving Out Sale!

I’ve passed my CCNA exam with a score of 961/1000 !! All thanks to TestInside v17.14 dump and www.9tut.com
Their ‘predictions’ of the questions are pretty accurate. I did their questions, trying to understand and memorize the steps/answers as much as possible. And because of that, for a 2 hour exam, I completed it in less than 30min.

So, to ‘celebrate’ my pass, I went to Citilink Mall to do walk around and do some ‘light shopping’. Little did I know, my ‘light shopping’ turned out to be quite a major buy….

MPH is having this move-out sale and the book prices are insanely low! Not sure when will this promotion end though

I’ve looted quite a number of books myself! Spent $90 for around 10 books… Hahah..

Was a pain carrying so many books back though.

Bandung – The Paris of Indonesia

If you want to shop for affordable, good quality and “branded” goods, this is the place to be! The “shops” scattered around Bandung are houses and each is like it’s own boutique. They are all ‘factory outlets’. There are tonnes of these shops in just one street.

However, as I only have limited time there, I wasn’t able to visit that many stores..

Bandung is like 2 hours drive away from Jakarta and we only departed late in the morning. By the time we reach there, it’s almost lunch time.

The first place that we visited is a shop filled with bags.. It’s like every woman’s dream.. Sooo many designer bags and it’s piled up mountaineously in the shop. Even though they may be imitation goods, they are Grade A imitationsl; which means they use the ‘actual’ high quality raw materials. Each imitation bag can cost up to a few hundred ringgit. They are really of that high quality..

After this shop, we went to this place called Rumah Mode (Model House). A very fashionable warehouse, again, with top quality clothes.

rumah-mode

I couldn’t resist the ‘temptation’ and bought a few items for my own. It’ll be like a ‘waste’ not to buy them. I tried on so many clothes and many looked good. But alas, I only end up with 2 long shirt sleeves (Esprit and Tom Tailor) and a Burberry jeans. All these, only cost me approx RM130.

Can you imagine, I actually forgot that I was hungry. By the time we’re done with shopping, it was almost 430pm (Msia time). Grabbed a quick lunch and we rushed to see a volcano crater up a hill that’s about 45min drive away without traffic. Well, you’ve guessed it.. The traffic was horrible~! It took us almost 2-3 hours to reach there!! And to make things worse, when we’re there, that place is closed cause it’s too dark and not safe for visitors to go in. All the way up there!! But at least, get to enjoy the cold weather up the mountain. It’s like Cameron kind of cold during rainy season. But anyhow, I had a good “jagung bakar” (grilled corn) up there with the driver.

grilled-corn

And then the long journey back to Bandung city and endured the horrible traffic jam again. We reached the city at approx 10pm Msia time. My sister then took me to a restaurant at the peak of the hill for dinner called “The Valley”.

the-valley

It has a very beautiful view. The outdoor area overlooks the night sky of Bandung.

dine-in-valley

And the food? Well.. I’d say I enjoyed their Soup a lot. They call it Sup Suppa! hahah

img_5426 img_5427

It’s basically mushroom soup encrusted with delicious crisp pastry. I ordered a local dish called Nasi Buntut! hahah.. It’s actually Oxtail Rice.. haha..

img_5434

Then, it’s the start of the journey of our way back to Jakarta. We left Bandung at 12am Malaysia time and reached Jakarta around 145am

Walking marathon

It was half a day of walking yesterday. So to speak, we (yinsin and I) kind of ‘explored’ Singapore town on foot.

The initial plan was to stay in NIE library to read up more about the places that I’m going to travel and then after that, to Boon Lay market to buy bus tickets back to Malaysia. This will be the few times I’m going back from Singapore. This time round was because I have to bring back a lot of luggage with me

Last minute, we changed our plan and went to Bugis late in the afternoon. We wanted to try the Klang Bak Kut Teh near Arab Street.

Firstly, we went to the new shopping mall opposite Bugis Junction. Eccentric design and they have an escalator which connects the ground floor right up to the top floor. New cinemas, lots of shops selling clothes and undergarments.

Anyway, after that, we walked to Arab Street, explored around the place before proceeding to Beach Road for the Bak Kut Teh place.

img_5179

The Bak Kut Teh was just so-so. Decent. Nothing extraordinary but not horrible either. It’s about $5-$6 per person. But it’s definitely different from the Singapore version of Bak Kut Teh. Theirs is the one with pepper soup instead of herbs.

Anyway, after dinner we headed (walked) to Golden Mile, since I know it’s nearby, to purchase our bus tickets. It wasn’t that bad, about 5-10min walk only. And we don’t need to go all the way to Boon Lay market to get tickets now. Right after that, we wanted to go back to city hall; Suntec/Marina Square. And from Golden Mile, we can actually see Singapore Flyer and the Suntec Building.
So, there’s two ways to get there:

  1. Walk to Lavendar Station (5-10min walk), take train to City Hall (2 stations), and then walk along Citilink Mall towards Suntec (10min)
  2. Follow the Suntec Building/Singapore Flyer on foot.

Well, obviously… We chose the latter one being the ‘adventurous’ sport that we are.. lol. Wasn’t that bad actually until we reached a point where we can see Suntec Building but we can’t go there. It’s just about less than 100m away from us but what’s separating us and the building is the highway!! It’s the ‘spaghetti’-type of highway where some cuts across, some flies overhead from one place to another. Following the Suntec Building was out of the question now since we may end up in the middle of the expressway.  So, we followed the Singapore Flyer and walked towards there. We eventually made it to Suntec Building after walking for what it seems like a U-turn to me. The entire walking took us approximately 20-30min. Not that far right? hahah

After doing some shopping and getting what we want, we headed back to NTU for supper at Ah Fang. It’s been a very very long time since I had supper with my batch of friends. My last memory of such an ordeal was back in year 2. The end of second year.

It was okay I guess. To like hang out again with them what seems like after a long time. And this is gonna be like the last time of NTU Supper for me. The walking outside NTU to a hawker place. And taking another 30min to walk back to my hall.

By the time I reached my hall, took a quick shower and went straight to bed.. Soundly fast asleep.
