Gabriel's Musings - Part 5

Room Shifting, Room Rearranging

As the title goes, my whole of Saturday is about shifting and rearranging of rooms; two different rooms though.

Room Shifting

That’s for Yin Sin’s last day in hall for the semester. So, I helped her shift her stuffs out from her room.
Some of the stuff is to another friend’s room in different halls. Some, is stored in the common area (limited storage area though)
And the remaining is stored in my room. Surprisingly, my room is able to fit the rest of her other stuff without much impact to the aesthetic value of my room – which doesn’t  have much to begin with anyway….

Room Rearranging

The rearrangement of my room has got nothing to do with the additional stuff into my room. Have always wanted to do that cause my computer is right by my window.
To look at the monitor in the afternoon, it’s sometimes quite glaring and uncomfortable… So, I’ve shifted my table to the side. It’s much better this way actually… I now can watch shows from my bed, and also see who is walking outside with just a small peek to the right!

Oh, I’ve also reformatted my computer. It’s been acting crazy for the past month or so. Everytime I need to switch on my computer twice for it to load into my windows. The first time, will always fail. It’ll get stuck at the windows boot screen. Then everytime I tried to defrag my hard disk, I get the BSOD. I can’t even scandisk my hard drive. It’ll just get stuck there.
Hopefully after I reformat, it’ll all be okay. Will give a few days of trial.

And there goes my weekend… Well, at least it’s been fruitful…
Now, it’s back to studying…. I’ve a technical paper on 1 June… =(

Mei Yin’s Trip to Singapore

A lot of excitements and ‘preparations’ were being done for the arrival of our dear friend, miss aw mei yin… But most of the ‘preparations’ became impromptu decisions when it happened.. hahaha

Mei Yin touched down to Singapore on Friday night where yee weng is supposed to pick her up… But because he had to run some errands for chee lim; taking a teddy bear or something, he had to skip that and followed chee lim the whole night. Friday night was Chin Zwen’s birthday celebration. The few weeks before was her boyfriend’s birthday celebration. It’s just a small get-to-gether at her place in Buona Vista.

cz-friends

Had dominoes pizza, kfc, and some misc tid bits. Then, james (her bf) couldn’t be around to be with her, he requested us to get the cupcakes and the big bear for her.

Mei Yin came to Chin Zwen’s place straight away after her flight touched down. Just nice for the birthday cake-cutting.cz-cake

Next day on Saturday, we woke up for Thai-lunch at Kovan. Then, we headed to the Southern Ridges to bring mei yin to the ‘garden in the city’. Started off at Mount Faber Park and exited at Alexandra Road. About half of the whole stretch.

I didn’t take much pictures as have already done that the previous time. I think I’m getting lazier to take pictures… =/ Anyway, it was quite ‘torturing’ at times cause we were really under the scorching sun!

None of us were really prepared for this ‘hike’. You can see us with slippers and all. Probably the only ‘preparation’ was the sun glasses that mei yin has on.

After that, we went to orchard to shop! Accompanied our guest to get some stuff she wanted to buy. Oh, and came to know if this dessert wine place at Ion Orchard! Interesting concept to have. I bought one 100ml ‘sherry medium’ bottle for myself for $10.

At Japanese buffet for dinner at Kuishinbo. They served unlimited crab for dinner! Too bad I’m not a very big fan of crab… But this time round, I think I’m slightly smarter for buffets already. Have learnt my lesson not to stuff my stomach till I suffer for the rest of the day(or night).kuishinbo

Met up with the rest after dinner. Luckily they were all at Suntec too! We met outside Carrefoure and we just cam-whored the entire time there. Initially, we were supposed to go Bugis for some dessert but that plan didn’t materialize. So, we just snapped pics till all the shops were closed and headed back home.

Chill Out Corner aka Creative Corner

Ever since Chee Lim and Kah Hon shifted to their new place, I had the urge to do something to our original place. When Jit-Vern shifts back in to his room, there is this abundant space at the so called ‘dining hall’ area. We decided to make half of the space to be a chill out corner or Ian would put it as “creative corner”

All that is missing is a big rug and some bean bags… Any good lobangs? haha

On the top shelf is the drinking space

Followed by snacks, reading space and mats. The other shelf contains all the board/card games.

games But there’s just a tiny little problem…. Nobody in the house likes to drink or play those card/board games… So guests, please come and make use of the space.

We even stocked up the fridge with lots of drinks!

Exhaustive Weekend

The last weekend was a physically and mentally tiring one. On Saturday morning, I woke up at 730am to renew my licence to a permanent Singapore Driving Licence. Then, met up with the rest at Balestier Road to rent a pick-up truck to well, help Chee Lim, Kah Hon and Susan move house.

Oh, we really travelled the whole of Singapore ex-East. Jit-Vern drove, I was the navigator, Kah Hon and Ian was the banglas and Chee Lim the supervisor. The timing was really bad.. We had to make multiple rounds from Sengkang/Bishan, to Bukit Batok.. The worse was people behind the truck where they had to endure the scorching sun and small droplets of rain. I had my fair of being at the back of the truck for a few trips.. Of course, we had a good laughs as well. When we were transporting two cupboard behind the truck, there literally wasn’t any seat space. JV volunteered to sit/sleep in the cupboard. hahah

And girls really do have A LOT Of stuff! Kah Hon only has a couple of bags to carry over.. Chee Lim and Susan had tonnes of stuff here.. I don’t know how they accumulated so many things. I remember when I was shifting my place, me, Ian, Jit Vern and Yee Weng only needed one truck in a single trip to Hougang.. hahaha

Yvonne came back to SG to visit us. She brought back a lot of face masks to be distributed around. We gathered everyone at night for dinner and chill out at their new place. The new tenants were so-kind of treating us all our meals (including the sumptuous Botak Jones) as a gratitude for their banglas’ sweat and blood. (yes, some of us bled). Ian and I almost treated the pick-up truck as our ‘home’ cause we spent a good old 16 hours on it.

So the whole of Saturday was all about carrying, hoisting, driving, sweating and tanning. When you have such an eventful Saturday, you’d think that any sane person would have rested on a Sunday.

But alas, we promised a dear friend to attend her boyfriend’s birthday celebration at Sentosa. Pity Chin Zwen though, she got stuck in Amsterdam due to the Iceland Volcanic Eruption and she couldn’t come back for her boyfriend’s birthday celebration. She had it all planned out but the party must go on without her. To make matters worse, the boyfriend is leaving to US a few days after that for a month and I don’t think they are able to see each other till after that.

Anyway, birthday celebration at Sentosa. It was only a small group of us. Me, Ian, Jit-Vern, Mel and Yvonne. Yin Sin and Yee Weng had to study at home. (though YW joined later). We watched and enjoyed looking at people play in the new wavepool, we took another person’s volleyball to play, and we had BBQ for dinner!

surf-wave wipe-out

The hot chick got wiped out in the artificial wave pool… *ouch*

The main thing was the BBQ actually. Most of the people there are his friends (~duh, his birthday party~) and it felt a bit weird at first. But after a while, we just kinda blend in and enjoy ourselves there.

james-bbq

We bought his cake and I think he’s kinda surprised with the cake… =)

But I think it’s quite sad cause his gf wasn’t there and she prepared all these for him. He also made a (I think) sad remark where he said that seeing us makes him feel his gf’s presence.
Guess we can just hope the airports will reopen soon and the two love birds can get back together.

I think I’m getting old. Those two nights really made me feel exhausted. For the first time, I slept at about 11 on Monday. Oh, I did a little project in the house on Monday night. Shall talk about that next time.

A pretty good weekend afterall

Turns out, my Good Friday weekend was quite good after all.

My supposed weekend is to spend Friday chillin out at Hougang home, Saturday to a Nuffnang Symposium event and Sunday more chillin’ out.

But it ended up like this:
On Friday, Rented a car to drive to KL, meeting some people with Shaun and Yi Wang.

On Saturday, spent the day with my family. Annie’s birthday celebration in the afternoon where we ate at home. And I slept like nobody business despite the 20 kids shouting, playing and running around the house. For dinner, had Mexican food with Rosemary and Alice with their families.

And on Sunday, it’s gonna a trip back to SG island.

This alternate weekend ended up quite well by spending time back in kl, seeing my sisters and all. Only sad thing is, can’t get to see my parents. Probably will go back Ipoh somewhere in May.

Oh, and am writing this post on my iPhone, that’s why a bit modular. At least, I get to online using wifi.
